Welcoming the Refugee

imageWelcoming the Refugee is a program to help refugee families in their first 120 days of resettlement in Fort Wayne.

Volunteers join together in groups of four to six persons to help new refugee households furnish an apartment, to connect them with community resources and help them access medical, educational, and government systems.

They teach them basics about shopping, apartment rental and practical things such as how to report a fire, or use an ATM machine.

At the end of 120 days, the group can decide if they want to continue involvement with the household or transfer them to another I House volunteer for continued involvement.

Training & Support

Training and support for this program is provided through a 12-week class called Welcoming the Refugee.
